Problems caused by storage

Gasoline can deteriorate while a generator sits, especially when fuel remains in the carburetor. Deposits may restrict small passages and cause hard starting, surging, or an engine that runs only with the choke partly closed.

  • Fuel age and tank condition
  • Fuel valve and carburetor flow
  • Hoses and visible leaks

Basic engine checks

A no-start generator still needs the same basics as other small engines: suitable fuel, spark, air, and compression. Low-oil shutdown systems and damaged wiring can also prevent operation on equipped models.

  • Oil level and shutdown system
  • Spark plug and ignition
  • Air filter and choke position

Engine trouble versus output trouble

A generator that runs poorly needs engine-side diagnosis first. A generator that runs normally but does not produce usable power has a different complaint. Describe both the engine behavior and the output problem when requesting service.
