Hard starting and flooding
Repeated starting attempts with the choke closed can flood the engine. If the normal starting procedure does not work, continuing to pull may make the symptom harder to diagnose.
- Correct choke and starting sequence
- Spark plug condition
- Fresh, correctly mixed fuel
Starts and then dies
A saw that briefly starts but will not stay running may have restricted fuel flow, deteriorated fuel lines, an air leak, or a carburetor problem. A blocked air filter or fuel-tank vent can also affect operation.
- Fuel lines, filter, and primer
- Air filter and tank vent
- Carburetor and intake condition
Bring the complete saw
The bar, chain, cover, and controls are part of a useful operating check. Bring the chainsaw assembled and mention whether the problem appears at idle, during acceleration, or under load.
